Expert Pick Review written by Ryan M.

Tayu is a fascinating blend of strategy, luck, and turning the game to your advantage. For two or four players (there are also rules for a three-player game, though it isn’t quite as good), Tayu has each player trying to to direct the lines on the tiles in his direction.

Each turn you draw one random tile, and must use it and connections as best you can. You are trying to create as many ‘water channels’ from one side of the board to the other, while blocking your opponent from doing the same.

Named after TaYu, a hero from Chinese legend who saved his country from flooding by creating waterways, this game will have you trying to redirect the flow of the game to your own advantage and your opponent’s disadvantage.

One of the features that makes Tayu a great game to have around is that it’s quick to learn, so you can teach a friend and be playing in minutes. And since each player only has one tile at a time, there’s no waiting for anyone to pick which piece they’ll play, making the pace of Tayu speedy and casual.

There are so many times I want to play a simple (but interesting) game with a friend or one of my nephews, and Tayu is my first choice for two-person gameplay, and a popular hit here at MudPuddles.

2–4 Players (either 2 or 4 recommended) • Ages 7+
